The Data Incubator is a Cornell-funded data science training organization. We run an introductory 4-week part-time online program geared towards giving working professionals a comprehensive survey of the DevOps ecosystem. Students will learn about modern best practices which can enhance productivity in any software workflow.

Curriculum

Prerequisites:

  • Basic knowledge of programming in Python
  • Basic familiarity with command line utilities

Target Audience:

This course is for you if:

  • You currently work in a software engineering or software development role and want to learn how to deploy and operate systems, automate and streamline operations and processes, or build and maintain tools for deployment, monitoring, and operations
  • You are a data scientist and want to build efficient models for development and deployment of software applications / systems
  • You are in a non-technical role and want to effectively understand the technological infrastructure demands from data scientists, software engineers, and the rest of the development team

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course you will:

  • Understand the fundamentals of version control, continuous integration, containerized applications, and deployment management (orchestration)
  • Have experience with using the following technologies to develop and deploy a basic web service application to the cloud: Git, GitHub, Travis CI, Docker, Kubernetes, and Google Cloud Platform (Google Kubernetes Engine) or Amazon Web Services
  • Be able to build and deploy full applications with tests, and apply fundamental DevOps skills to your own projects
